Habitat for Humanity Recycled Arts Show

Habitat for Humanity Recycled Arts Show
This is a new and different kind of “graphic design” for me. Tomorrow night, April 19th, I’ll be debuting as an artist at the 2nd Annual Recycled Arts Show benefiting Habitat for Humanity at the old antique store located next to CarQuest in downtown Pagosa. Friday night from 6pm–9pm is the gallery opening and Meet the Artists Event. Tickets are $20. Then Saturday the gallery is open to the public for free from 11am–4pm.

Everything Old is New Again
…kind of like Spring. My ole flower beds are starting to show the tiny sprouts of daffodils, tulips and crocus.

Technical or Creative
I’ve been meaning to write about this project for quite some time—seeing as how it was completed last Spring. But I think it’s taken this long to write it so I could have a few more experiences to reflect upon and tie into the story.

For the Birds

For the Birds
I attended the dinner Monday night to conclude the first annual Christmas Bird Count conducted by the local Weminuche Audubon Society. The event was a great success with around 50 volunteer counters who are eagerly awaiting for the data to be compiled and reported.

I can’t talk about this project without talking about the person behind the project. I met Beverly Compton over three years ago through my work with the Southwest Land Alliance. Since then, she’s volunteered for my projects as I have hers. She even helped me have one of the most awesome summer jobs I’ve had in a long time when I worked with her at Pagosa Feed & Nursery.

One was for a friend, talented artist and cellist Mark Dudrow’s new CD with guitarist and fiddler Justin Dean. This was one of my first professionally printed pieces in a LONG time. They came to me with the overall design, but I had to tweak it to fit the template and got to make some additional design and typography suggestions. See you at the CD release party January 30th at the Taos Inn!

Evolution of a Designer

Evolution of a Designer
I believe a designer’s portfolio should be reviewed and updated regularly to be sure it showcases their best work in the most succinct way possible. With the power of the web, a designer no longer has to tailor their portfolio in this fashion. I have still chosen to show my best and most relevant work in the portfolio section of my website, but in this blog section I can talk about ALL of my work. I think it’s a good way to reflect on how my skills have evolved.
